Try the sport of curling! Learn how to deliver a stone, and how to sweep it down the ice. No experience necessary.

Eventbrite - Learn to Curl in Pasadena

You've seen the sport in the Olympics, you've heard about it from someone you know, and you've thought, “hey, I wonder if I can do that?” Come find out for yourself! With no experience necessary, come on out to see what the roaring game is all about. Learn how to deliver a stone, and how to sweep it down the ice. Find out what hog lines, hacks, buttons, and houses all have to do with it. Bring your families out and learn together.

Our instructors will give you an overall understanding of what you need to play the game. You'll learn the basics of throwing, sweeping, and some basic game flow and strategy. By the end of just one session, you can be ready to join our leagues and master the game!

    What to Wear

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can lunge in (stretch!), warm socks, and rubber-soled, closed toe shoes. Sneakers work well. We suggest no Converse, Toms, or other low-profile soles—your feet will get cold! Dress in layers—it can be cold on the ice, but you'll warm up once you start sweeping.

    Accessibility

Curling is an accessible sport and we welcome participants who use wheelchairs, and others with limited mobility. Use of arms and hands is required, but we can provide a delivery aid (delivery stick) to release the stone without bending down. Please contact us in advance if you have questions or to discuss any special accommodations.

    Release Forms

All adult participants must sign Hollywood Curling's adult release form. All minor participants (under 18) must have their parent or guardian sign Hollywood Curling's minor release form. Any additional guests (photographers, spectators, etc.) must also provide a signed release form before being allowed on the ice. You may download and fill out the release forms in advance, or we will have paper copies available at the event.

At Pasadena Ice Skating Center, you will also be asked to sign the venue's own release form as you enter. Pasadena Ice Skating Center is a separate entity from Hollywood Curling.

    Venue and Parking

This class will be held at Pasadena Ice Skating Center. Meet us inside the main entrance. We recommend that you arrive 10 minutes early. There is some free street parking available in the area, and paid parking structures nearby.

    FAQs:

Q: It says there are team spots available, but a waitlist for free agents. Why can't I sign up?

There are a limited number of free agent spots at first, but we always get more in off the wait list as the roster starts to get finalized. We've always managed to get almost every free agent in off the list, so please join the waitlist and know that your chances are exceptionally good that we'll fit you in!

Q: Is everyone playing on Thursday?

Curling starts on Thursday this year! Half of the Open division and all of the beginner's division will have games during the day on Thursday, so please plan accordingly. Open division only: There are a limited number of teams that can play later draws (Thursday night to Friday morning), but we can't accommodate all requests for late starts. Don't forget that July 4 is the holiday!

Q: I have a partial team- how do I sign up?

If you have two players wanting to play together, please sign up as two free agents, and send us an email letting us know you want to play together.  If you have three players, please sign up for a full team slot, and let us know you need a free agent, and we will either refund you the money for one spot, or give you a person that can pay you directly.

Q: Is the beginners division separate from the open division? Could I play in both?

They are separate, but unlike last year, they will play on the same rink during the same draws (For example, Draw 3 might include two Open division games and three Beginner division games). It is likely that there could be conflicts between the two divisions where you would be required to be on the ice in two games at the same time, so we don't recommend signing up for both. If you're looking for more ice time, we always need subs to jump in at the last minute, and can often find you the opportunity to play more games.

New this year: We are no longer accepting offline payments (checks or cash) for registration. We have waived our processing fees in an attempt to collect all money online. Your spot will not be confirmed until payment is received, and unpaid team spots will be given away to waitlist teams.

    Pasadena Summer Tuesday Evening League

    Tuesdays @ 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

    Tuesdays July 9 through July 30, 2019.

    6 Teams

    Pasadena Ice Skating Center
    300 E Green St, Pasadena CA 91101

Hey Pasadena, are you ready to rock? Join us for a fun, open league on Tuesday nights. Everyone is welcome to attend, even if you've only done one Learn to Curl! If you've never played in a league before, this is a great chance to try it out in a low-key environment and beat the summer heat. The summer is the only time of the year when we can get on the ice in Pasadena in prime time on a weekday, so take advantage of the opportunity!

This league will be a manager's choice format, which means you'll be put onto teams with a mix of new and experienced curlers to ensure the best opportunity to meet new people while learning more about the sport. If you want to play on a team with your friends, let us know in the registration form, and we'll keep pairs and groups together whenever possible. Everyone must still register and pay individually - don't forget to tell your teammates to register!

    Rules

There are a few rules we need to enforce to make the sign up process fair for everyone. Help us make the process go smoothly by reading the rules below:

    • Members must be in good standing in order to register.
    • Payment must be received in full in order to hold your spot. For this league we are accepting online payments only.
    • Teams that don't submit a full roster at the time of registration may have a free agent assigned to their team.

    Cancellation/Refund Policy:

    • Requests to withdraw from a league with 8+ days notice prior to start of league will be eligible for a full refund, and must be received in writing or via email. There will be NO refund for any cancellations within 7 days of the first night of league.
    • Leagues that require membership will include all guests of members. Memberships may be completed online prior to or during the registration process, and must be in good standing in order to play. Failure to pay membership dues prior to the start of a league may result in forfeiture of games, suspension from league play, or other penalties.

    Helmet Policy
We require that participants under the age of 12 provide their own helmets, which must be worn at all times when on the ice.  12+ helmets are recommended, but it is ultimately up to parental discretion. All minors will require parental or guardian consent at the first night of league.

      Five Rock Free Guard Rule
Reflecting USA Curling and the World Curling Federation's recent rule change, this league will be subject to the 5-rock Free Guard Zone. No opponents' rocks may be eliminated from the Free Guard Zone (the area between the hog line and the tee line, excluding the house) until after 5 rocks have been delivered. More detail and strategy considerations in this blog post.

Join us for a fun SHORTS league on Sunday nights, and enjoy a curling tradition called "broomstacking" in the bar each night!  Limited to 6 teams, we will take a waitlist once we are full, and if it's possible to expand the league, we will do our best to get everyone in.

Individuals are welcome. We know you might not have an established team yet, so please sign up as an individual and we will place you on a team with a range of skill levels. Joining a league is the best way to improve your curling game!

This is an OPEN league - anyone of any skill level may register. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to sign up.

Due to the expected high demand for this league, all players must register individually. This helps us ensure that membership dues are current and that Platinum members can make the most of their early signup benefit.

Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Incomplete teams will be paired with free agents as needed. Payment is required to hold your spot.
