2014 Board of Directors
As of January, 2014, your Board of Directors will be:
Larry Lieberman (President)
Larry's interest for curling was ignited while watching the 2006 Olympics, but he never considered trying it until February of 2010, when he and his wife Julie attended a learn to curl with Hollywood Curling, and he's been helplessly addicted ever since. Larry joined the Board of Directors in 2011, and became the president of the club in 2012. Larry is a very accomplished bowler, where he bowled for 20+ years in many national and international tournaments. Larry is one of very few to ever bowl a perfect 300 game with his right and left hand, which put him into the Bowling Hall of Fame. Now a days, when not on the ice, Larry can be found at a golf course where he is about a 12 handicap.
"While I may have been born in Wisconsin, it took my move to California to learn about the sport of curling. First time at a Learn to Curl, I was hooked. I wanted to further my interest so I started attending the board meetings soon after. Realizing that my talents would be an asset to the club I was able to help with one of the newly vacant board positions. In my position of Vice-president I was able to start up the Adopt-a-stone program and help with the historian aspects of the club with my photography skills. By joining the board I have met so many different people and understand more of what the club needs for the years to come. This is why I am running for another term for office. Photography is one of my true passions and curling has become my second one. This is going to be one of Hollywood Curling's bigger years as it is the Winter Olympics and I want to help. thanks for your consideration!"
"I have been a Member since 2010 and have been the Treasurer for the club the last 3 years. I received a degree in Business Administration emphasis in Accounting from Cal State Fullerton in ’06 and I am currently employed as an Auditor for the State of California."
Cindy grew up in Canada and has been curling around 24 years. She is very passionate about the sport from telling everyone she meets about it, teaching others on and off the ice as well as trying to outfit everyone with custom uniforms and broom bags. She has been a member of the club since it's beginning years and likes to help organize the yearly bonspiel.
As a native Canadian, its absurd to think that I had to move to Los Angeles before ever learning this roaring game. I've been hooked ever since my first learn to curl in 2008. Since then, I've served on the board for two years, bookending a year that I spent in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The curling was great in that state, but I honestly believe that California has the most enthusiastic and incredible group of curlers one could ever ask for. This past year, I have been able to dedicate a lot of time to the club, not the least of which include the revamp and overhaul of our website, member communications & newsletters, as well as actively participating on the bonspiel committee, not to mention a key factor in the success of our Celebrity Charity Game this past summer. I'm looking forward to helping the club succeed and meet the demand of Sochi 2014, not to mention representing Hollywood Curling on a competitive level, and as an event committee chair at the 2014 WFG Continental Cup in Las Vegas. I want to see Hollywood Curling have a tremendously successful 2014 so that we can start planning for dedicated ice in SoCal!
I have been a proud member of HCC for just over a year and has loved every minute if it. This is a great club and a great game and I look forward to helping out in anyway that I can.
Curling for 3 going on 4 years. Been a member of the board for one year. Big fan of Lionel Richie.
As a native North Dakotan, I grew up in a curling family. The sport of curling is so important to me and I want others to be able to have the same awesome experience as I have had. It really is all about the family. I barely knew anyone before I moved down here and found a family at the Hollywood Curling Club! It's been awesome being a part of the board this past year and I hope to continue to do so!
Having been a member of Hollywood Curling for a little over a year, I’ve voluntarily attended multiple board meetings, been a contributing member of the Bonspiel committee, participated in meetings with Larry and Matt dealing with securing ice time with the Valencia Ice Rink, and have volunteered for Learn to Curl events to better promote our club/sport. I feel I’ve been successful at trying to learn the ins and outs that will help carry our club into a post-Olympic membership bump (frenzy) and would like to become an official board member to help build and fortify our club as well as the curling presence we represent in our Los Angeles region. Thanks for your consideration of my application for board membership!
Interested in being more involved with Hollywood Curling? There are plenty of ways to get involved. All members are invited and encouraged to attend board meetings at any time. Can;t make it to a board meeting? Feel free to contact the board to have your thoughts, ideas, or concerns voiced at our next meeting. You can also help out by volunteering, joining the bonspiel planning committee, or assisting with Learn to Curls and corporate events.
